Eliminating vehicular accidents is the mission of Mobileye, cofounded by Amnon Shashua and Ziv Aviram in 1999. They point out that such incidents cause 1.5 million fatalities every year. Committed to stemming this “epidemic,” Mobileye developed a driving assistance system that provides a full range of active safety features using a single camera. In August 2014, Mobileye issued the largest Israeli IPO ever by raising $1b at a market cap of $5.3b. Today, approximately 10 million cars from 23 automobile manufacturers, or 90% of the automotive market, rely on Mobileye technology to make their vehicles safer to drive. In addition, Mobileye is developing autonomous driving technology with more than a dozen car manufacturers. Autonomous vehicles that navigate themselves have the potential to revolutionize how they are built, driven and owned in the future.
